PURPOSE:To maintain the electric current density on a material which is to be painted and is going to enter an electrodeposition bath cell at the same level as the level in the normal state by providing means for interrupting temporarily the current conduction to the diaphragm electrodes near the entrance part upon detection that there is no entrance of the material having priority in the electrodeposition bath cell. CONSTITUTION:Plural pairs of the diaphragm electrode 21-29 are provide on both sides of the electrodeposition bath cell 1. The material to be painted such as automotive body Z is dipped by progressive feed into the cell 1 by a hanger 4. Limit switches 5, 6 are provided to such electrodeposition painting device A. The absence of the material Z just before the material Z which is going to enter the cell is detected if the limit switch 5 is on and 6 is off. All the electrodes 21-23 near the entrance part are simultaneously shut off by the detection signal. The current conduction to the electrodes 21-23 is restored to allow the specified number of the material Z to enter the inside of the bath 1 after the prescribed time. The good painted surface is obtd. by such mechanism.
