PURPOSE:To prevent a solid black of a peripheral part by providing on the lower face of glass, a plate material having a light reflecting function which can be fed or led in from at least one side of four sides of a platen glass for the original platen of a copying device. CONSTITUTION:On the lower face of a platen glass 11 for placing an original, of a copying device, a movable peripheral edge 14 having a light reflecting function, which can be moved and adjusted in the direction as indicated with an arrow A is provided along at least one side of the platen glass 11. In this state, when an original which is narrower than a fixed form has been placed, or when such a thick book as shown in the figure has been placed, a gap generated against a fixed frame edge 13 is closed up by the movable peripheral edge 14, and a scanning light from a light source which is not shown in the figure is reflected. In this way, a solid black which is generated in the peripheral edge part of sensitized paper is prevented, and an image of a high quality can be formed.
