3-Enol ethers of 6-hydroxymethyl 3-oxo delta four-steroids of formula (I) in which R is alkoxy, hydroxy-alkoxy, cyclo-alkoxy or functional deriv. of these, are made by reducing the corresp. 3-enol ether of a 6-formyl 3-oxo steroid of formula (II) by hydrogenation, catalysed by Pt/C, in presence of a sodium acetate buffer.
