2,2-Dichloro 3-cyano propionamide is made by reaction of cyano-acetamide with gaseous chlorine. Reaction takes place in a dispersion in an inert solvent with b.pt below 50 deg.C, e.g. CCl4, at b.pt of the solvent, with molar ratio of cyano-acetamide to chlorine of 1:2 and reaction time of 5 hours max. The prod. is sepd. by centrifuging, washed with CCl4 and dried.
