PURPOSE:To inhibit the production of an optical strain by placing an auxiliary press for preforming a part of plate glass requiring high curvature in a forming apparatus in which heated plate glass is held between upper and under dies in a horizontal state. CONSTITUTION:When curved plate glass such as window glass for an automobile is formed, plate glass G heated to a temp. close to the softening point in a heating furnace 2 is conveyed to a position between upper and under dies 6, 8 in a forming apparatus 1 with conveying rollers 3, 10. The apparatus 1 is provided with an auxiliary press 14 between the rollers 10 and the upper die 6. A ring mold 11 is then moved upward. The peripheral part of the plate G is supported, the plate G is lifted up until a part of the plate G requiring high curvature contacts with the press 14, and the part is performed after the shape of the press 14. At this time, the die 8 is moved upward slightly after the mold 11 is moved upward. The press 14 is moved upward while pressing the plate G by the upward movement of the mold 11. Finally, the peripheral part of the plate G is formed with the die 6 and the mold 11, and the central part with the dies 6, 8.
