NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by the formula (R1 and R2 are H, alkyl or cycloalkyl, R1 and R2 together with N to which they are linked may form a heterocyclic ring; R3 is H or alkyl). EXAMPLE:Ammonium 5-methyloxalurate. USE:A hypoglycemic agent, useful for treating and preventing diseases caused by diabetes, and having high safety, administrable continuously for a long period, and orally administrable with little side effect. PREPARATION:Oxalyl chloride is reacted with an N-monoalkylurea in a solvent, e.g. tetrahydrofuran, under cooling with ice-room temperature to give an N- alkylimidazolidinetrione, which is then agitated in a basic solvent, e.g. aqueous ammonia, at room temperature or while heating to afford the aimed compound expressed by the formula. |
