A tertiary N-vinylamide is polymerized, optionally together with further monomers, in the presence of an aliphatic hydrocarbon, at a temperature of from 0 DEG to 150 DEG C., using two types of initiator one of which is insoluble and the other soluble in the hydrocarbon used. The pulverulent or granular polymer obtained has a diminished content of residual monomer. It is suitable as protective colloid or dispersing agent for emulsion or suspension polymerizations. |
