PURPOSE:To make it possible to hold magnetic characteristics of the magnetic layer in stability by heat-treating a recording layer of a film of an amorphous ferromagnetic alloy of a rare earth-transition metal on a substrate at a temperature lower than the crystallization temperature. CONSTITUTION:The recording layer 2 of a film of an amorphous ferromagnetic alloy of rare earth-transition metal and a protective layer 3 for preventing oxidation are formed on the base plate 1. After forming the recording layer 3, the unit is heat-treated for a predetermined time at a temperature lower than the crystallization temperature by a heater 4. By one heat treatment, the lowering of the C/N of the reproduced signal is suppressed when the heat is given by the repetition of recording and erasure and even if the number of times of repetition is increased, the magnetic characteristics are maintained stably.
