Auxiliary drive (10) for a bicycle, moped or the like, which is accommodated in a pot hub (20) assigned to the rear wheel (12). The pot hub (20) is seated on a centring collar (19) which is assigned to the running hub (16). In the pot hub (20), an engine (45) with fuel tank, carburetter and exhaust is arranged. The crankshaft (54) of the engine (45) acts on the primary side (35) of a variable speed gear (75). The inner wall (24) of the cylinder of the pot hub (20) is provided with an inner toothing (25) in which a gearwheel pinion (41) of a variable speed gear shaft (36) intermeshes. <IMAGE>
