Device for releasing or fastening screwed pipe connections. The same consists of two jaws which have a joint and a screwed connection for opening and closing the jaws. On the inside in the closed state, the jaws have a hexagon which corresponds to the hexagon of the screwed pipe connection. Furthermore, one jaw is provided with a mandrel which, by means of hammer blows on it, enables the jammed screwed pipe connection to be released without damaging it. The mandrel deviates in its direction only slightly from the centre axis of the device and the screwed pipe connection so that the hammer blows are effective with regard to the opening or closing of the screwed pipe connection.
