A sliding clasp fastener includes interengageable stringer coils, each stringer coil having fastener elements formed by the convolutions of a wire, the wire having therealong a constriction 3<SP>1</SP> defining beads 1, 2 which extend longitudinally of the wire, the wire of each stringer coil being formed along one bead at least thereof with projections 18 providing on each fastener element, a locking head, the arrangement being such that the locking heads of one stringer coil can be brought into interlocking engagement with co-operating locking heads of another stringer coil. The beads 1, 2 can be equal or unequal in size and can abut as shown or be separated by a rib. The wire is either flattened to provide the projection or projections or the beads are forced apart by piercing the wires at the constriction. |
