SOLID-STATE IMAGE PICKUP ELEMENT

PURPOSE:To eliminate simply shaping through the subtraction of signals by a light incident picture element and a light shielding picture element by providing a well electrode only to a horizontal part around the picture element array to allow only the vertical shaping to be in existence. CONSTITUTION:The well electrode 4 is provided at only a side running in parallel with a horizontal scanning circuit 2 in the peripheral part of a picture element section 3. Since each photodiode on a line AA' is equal in distance to the well electrode 4, the capacitance of the photodiode is equal entirely and horizontal shading is eliminated. Further, a region 15 applying light shield to the picture element section is provided in the vertical direction and a signal charge due to a dark current charged in the photodiode is generated. Then the vertical shading is eliminated by subtracting the signal of light shield section 15 being the vertical shading component from the signal of the picture element on the same scanning line.
