<p>The process for the carbonylation of an allenically unsaturated compound with CO in the presence of water, an alcohol and/or a carboxylic acid is carried out in the presence of a catalyst formed by combining:-
a) a Pd(II) compound,
b) >/= 15 mol of an organic phosphine per gram atom of Pd(II), and
c) protonic acid having a pKa > 1.5 and/or a carboxylic acid having a pKa </= 1.5, both measured at 18 DEG C in aqueous solutions.
