PURPOSE:To obtain a high output at all times when an engine is under high load by providing an air-fuel ratio adjusting means which adjusts the air-fuel ratio of an air-fuel mixture which is supplied to an engine, by receiving the outputs of a combustion speed detecting means and a load detecting means. CONSTITUTION:By measuring time at which flame is transmitted from a first ion sensor 10 to a second ion sensor 11, combustion speed is detected by means of an engine control unit 12. A load is detected by an air flow meter 4 and a crank angle sensor 14. The engine control unit 12 controls air-fuel ratio properly based on the combustion speed. Thus, a high output can be obtained at all times when an engine is under high load.
