PURPOSE:To simplify a melt reducing process and to obtain quick lime having a satisfactory slagging property by producing quick lime necessary for melt reduction in the melt reducing process in a preheating furnace while preheating iron ore in the furnace. CONSTITUTION:Limestone for forming part of a slag forming agent used in a melt reducing furnace is charged into an ore preheating furnace together with iron ore, and quick lime is produced by thermally decomposing the limestone. A slag forming agent contg. the quick lime, a carbonaceous material, oxygen and iron ore preheated in the preheating furnace and half-reduced in a prereducing furnace are charged into a melt reducing furnace, where the iron ore is reduced. Part of hot gas generated by a gasification reaction of the carbonaceous material is mixed with part of gas recovered from the prereducing furnace and this gaseous mixture is fed to the prereducing furnace. |
