In this device, an indicator connected to a sensing line is provided which is formed by an additional electronic switch, such as a diode, located in series with the moisture indicator. To locate the moisture, a pulse echo measuring instrument and converter for generating a cyclically repolarised direct voltage is connected to the sensing line. As a result, the diode is correspondingly biased by the converter so that a fault occurring is clearly distinguished from cable inhomogeneities on the pulse echo measuring device and can thus be unambiguously located.
