What is proposed is a hammer drill with a motor-driven air-cushion percussion mechanism, in which the percussion mechanism is driven via a gear which contains a swashplate as a movement converter. The drum (16) of the swashplate (26) is designed so that it forms part of a rotary bearing (19), the counterpiece (20) of which is arranged in the hammer housing (1/21) or is formed by this. This arrangement leads to a highly compact space-saving and parts-saving design and, as a result of the reduction of the self-excitation brought about by moving mass forces, to a perfect idling behaviour. <IMAGE>
