2-Alkyl-4-amino-5-aminomethyl pyrimidine derivs. were prepd. by reaction of 2-alkyl-4-amino-5-formyl pyrimidine with NH3 in the presence of Mo or W-contg. heteropoly acids, isopoly acids, oxy acids, or their salt, followed by contact reaction with NH3 and H in the presence of reducing catalysts. The title compds. are intermediates in synthesis of vitamin B1 and its analogues.
