In the production of alkylated aromatics, particularly ethylbenzene, using Friedel Crafts catalysts, the yield is improved by treating the residue with fresh Friedel Crafts catalyst, which is then introduced into the alkylation line and is still sufficiently active to take part in the main alkylation process. Preferably, on a light fraction of the residue is utilized.
