PURPOSE:To display the message at low cost by providing a pattern generating device for displaying several kinds of messages in the terminal device of a two-way CATV system and displaying the message on the TV scope by the indication of the center. CONSTITUTION:A display pattern memory part 322 stores several kinds of the message pattern beforehand. By the message display indication from the center, a display pattern selecting signal output 325 is outputted from a display control part 319, and the equivalent message is written from a display pattern memory part 322 into a display memory part 323. The message of the display memory part 323 is synchronized and read successively to a display clock 328, synthesized through a character generator part 324 together with a video signal output 315 at a display output synthesizing part 32 ad the message is displayed through an RF modulator 303 to a TV receiver.
