PURPOSE:To obtain an oxygen-containing 2C compound composed mainly of ethanol, in high yield, by contacting CO and H2 in the presence of a catalyst consisting of Rh-Nb-Co-Ir system. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of CO and H2 at a CO/H2 volume ratio of 0.1-10 is subjected to the catalytic reaction at 150-450 deg.C under pressure of 0-350kg/ cm<2>G at a space velocity of 10<2>-10<5>hr<-1> in the presence of a catalyst composed of Rh, Nb, Co and Ir and preferably supported on a carrier having a specific surface area of 10-1,000m<2>/g and pore diameter of >=10Angstrom , e.g. silica, etc. An oxygen-containing compound composed mainly of ethanol can be produced by this process. The raw material used in the preparation of the catalyst is the inorganic compound such as oxide, chloride, nitrate, etc., organic salt such as acetate, oxalate, etc., and chelate compound, etc., of the above elements. The catalyst components are dispersed on the carrier by immersion method, ion exchange method, coprecipitation method, kneading method, etc. |
