PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin with high oiticica oil content capable of giving laminates of outstanding punching processability, etc., by reaction, under specific condition, of a specified proportion of phenol and oiticica oil followed by reaction with formaldehyde in the presence of alkaline catalyst. CONSTITUTION:First, oiticica oil and phenol are made to react in a solvent consisting of lower aliphatic alcohol (pref., methanol, etc.) in the presence of an acid catalyst such as toluenesulfonic acid, in a weight ratio of the former to the latter: 30/70-60/40. Next, the resulting oiticica oil-phenol adduct is allowed to react, in the presence of a basic catalyst such as ammonia, with formaldehyde to obtain the objective resin. Said formaldehyde should be used, e.g., in the form of formalin with a concentration 30-38%.
