PURPOSE:To decrease the thermal load of a furnace mouth shell and to prevent the generation of thermal deformation and cracking by attaching a caster panel to the furnace mouth shell. CONSTITUTION:The level of blast furnace charge 1 is reduced down to a furnace wall repair part (a) and after the blast furnace is blown down, in the inside surface of the furnace is coated with refractories 15 and the caster panel 9 provided with fixing bolts 19 on the shell 4 side is taken into the furnace through the aperture at the furnace top by means of wire ropes 12, 11 so as to face the repair part (a). The wire rope 10 attached to the rear of the caster panel 9 is drawn toward the operator through the aperture (b) and the bolts 19 are connected to bolts 18, then nuts 20 are tightened to fix the caster panel 9 to the shell 4. Refractories 16 having good heat conductivity are forced into the spacing between the shell 4 and the panel 9 to build the furnace wall. Water is sprayed to the shell 4 and the panel 9 is cooled via the shell 4 in the stage of operation.
