PURPOSE:To maintain the superior durability of a charge providing member by incorporating a metallic complex having a specified compound as a ligand into the surface layer. CONSTITUTION:This charge providing agent has a metallic complex having a compound represented by the formula (where each of R1-R4 is H or alkyl, and n=1, 2 or 3) as a ligand in the surface layer. In case of a symmetric metallic complex, a metallic salt of a compound to be coordinated such as the Na or K salt is dissolved or dispersed in water or a solvent such as methanol, ethanol or ethylcellosolve, and a metal providing agent, generally a chloride is added in 2:1 molar ratio. The resulting soln. or dispersion is heated and brought into a reaction by adding a pH adjusting agent to obtain a slurry or a soln. The slurry is filtered to take out the solid product. The soln. is diluted with water contg. a mineral acid to form a precipitate, and this precipitate is taken out by filtration. In case of an asymmetric metallic complex, a metallic salt of a compound to be coordinated on one side is dissolved or dispersed in water or a solvent such as methanol or ethanol, and a metal providing agent is added in 1:1 molar ratio. Thus, a charge providing member having superior durability during use under friction with a toner is obtd. |
