A pressure medium brake system with electrically actuatable brake units is proposed, which can be electrically supplied by a first energy storage device (1) and/or by a second energy storage device (10). The energy storage devices (1 and 10) are formed by a first and second battery unit (1a and 10a) with an equal number of cells, of which the first battery unit (1a) is generally the vehicle starter battery, chargeable by a generator (3) by way of a charging circuit (2). For detecting malfunctions, at least one voltage monitoring device (5, 5a, 5b), which has outputs (6 and 7) for supplying the pressure medium brake system with the first and/or second energy storage device on one or more circuits, is assigned to the energy storage devices (1 and 10). A switching device (8, 8a, 8b) for switching the outputs (6, 7) to emergency operation with the other energy storage device (1 or 10), a charge switching device (11, 11a) for connecting the second battery unit (10a) to the charging circuit (2) and at least one signal instrument (12) for the display of malfunctions of the first and/or second energy storage device (1 and/or 10) are assigned to the voltage monitoring device (5, 5a, 5b). <IMAGE>
