The holding bush (24) provided with the outer clamping disc (28) is axially displaceable in a guide bush (21a) fixed in the baseplate (21). For the axial displacement of the holding bush (24), one arm (38a) of a pivotable double lever (38) engages on the latter; the other arm (38b) of the double lever (38) is coupled to the actuating element causing the raising and lowering of the press foot. When the press foot is raised by means of this actuating element, the holding bush (24), together with its thread-insertion point (35), is raised above the working surface (A) at the same time, but with a delay. When the press foot is being lowered, the holding bush is lowered until the outer clamping disc (28) is in alignment with the working surface (A). The device is especially suitable for flat-bed and industrial sewing machines. <IMAGE>
