PURPOSE:To produce truly spherical fine particles composed of compound inorganic oxide and having a specific average particle diameter, by using a colloidal liquid containing two or more kinds of inorganic oxides or hydrated oxides, and spraying and drying the liquid in a gas stream, wherein the content of one of the oxides, etc., exceeds a specific level. CONSTITUTION:A colloidal liquid containing two or more kinds of inorganic oxides and/or hydrated oxides of metals such as Si, Ti, Al, Fe, Zr, Sn, Sb, Mg, etc., wherein the content of an oxide or hydrated oxide is >=5wt% in terms of oxide, is spray-dried to obtain the titled truly spherical fine particles having an average particle diameter of 1-20mu. The average diameter of the primary particles in the colloidal liquid is preferably <=2,500lambda, and the spray-drying is carried out preferably at an ambient temperature of 100-10 deg.C and a humidity of 13-3vol%.
