PURPOSE:To monitor a screen during video recording by providing a liquid- crystal display device which displays the whole or part of the screen in video recording and the time selectively according to a switching command. CONSTITUTION:When a screen monitor is selected by closing a switch 3b, a timing signal for scanning is generated 12 on the basis of the vertical and horizontal synchronizing signals in a signal and supplied to an X driver 14 and an Y driver 15; and a switch 3c is open, an X decoder 17 and an Y decoder 18 do not operate, and the monitor screen is displayed on a liquid-crystal panel 3a. When the switch 3b is opened and 3c is closed, the decoders 17 and 18 select segments in the liquid-crystal panel on the basis of time information held in a timer 16 and those segments are driven 14 and 15. Consequently, the whole or part of the screen in video recording and the time are displayed selectively according to a switching command, so that the screen is monitored while an increase in cost is suppressed and the installation space on the front panel is secured.
