PURPOSE:To attain the automatic character disposition for plotting by calculating the degree of superposition between a polygon already set at a plotting position within a CPU and a polygon set newly and deciding the position of the new polygon excluding said superposition part. CONSTITUTION:For an automatic production system of disposition line diagram, both character string and symbol data are defined by an oblong polygon 26 and supplied to a CPU2 from an input device 1. The polygon 26 is set at the position of the plotting coordinates as a rectangle having the minimum size that can cover a single symbol 31 or a series of character strings 30. The CPU2 carries out the nearby search processing and checks the presence of a polygon which has possibly the superposition on the periphery of a newly set polygon. The check processing is performed for superposition after the periphery search processing is through with all existing polygons. Then the position of the new polygon is shifted and the result of the superposition check is delivered to an output device 3 after correction of the character string data. In such a way, the characters can be disposed automatically with no superposition of character strings, symbols, etc.
