PURPOSE:To manufacture the steel having superior sulfide stress corrosion cracking resistance by subjecting steel containing specific percentage of C, Si, Mn, Al, and Nb to heating, hot working, water cooling, and tempering under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:The steel consisting of, by weight, 0.10-0.40% C, 0.1-1.0% Si, 1.50-3.00% Mn, 0.005-0.10% Al, 0.01-0.10% Nb, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities is heated to the temp. from Ac3 transformation point +50 deg.C to 1,150 deg.C, hot-worked at and above Ar3 transformation point at >=30% draft, water-cooled immediately to the temp. from 600 deg.C to room temp. at 5-60 deg.C/sec cooling rate, and then tempered at the temp. from 400 deg.C to Ac1 transformation point. In this way, the steel having sulfide stress corrosion cracking resistance can be obtained at low cost, obviating the necessity of reheating hardening stage.
