PURPOSE:To increase the efficiency of utilizing light by using wires the ends of each of which are smaller than the thickness of a metallic mesh plate to make the metallic mesh which is installed in such a manner as to close the opening of the microwave cavity. CONSTITUTION:Microwave from a magnetron 1 is passed through a waveguide 3 and then is introduced into a microwave cavity 11 consisting of a semispherical part 5 and a metallic mesh plate 7 for closing the opening. An electrodeless discharge lamp 13 installed in the cavity 11 is discharged to produce light which is then introduced outside the cavity 11 through the mesh plate 7. The wires 71 of the mesh plate 7 has a triangular or lens-like cross section and the thickness of the ends of each of the wires 71 are smaller than the thickness of the plate 7. Therefore, the efficiency of utilizing light can be increased by preventing any reduction o the transmittance of obliquely incident light. Besides, it is also possible to prevent any increase of the leakage of microwave by making the pitch and the maximum width of the wires 71 equal to conventional levels. |
