PURPOSE:To attain the storage of both the large-capacity information and the variable information and to perform the unitary control of both information, by using a magnetic recording medium and an optical recording medium which are driven by the same rotary source. CONSTITUTION:A photomagnetic disk 11 containing a magnetic recording medium 1a and an optical recording medium 4a set on the same disk is revolved by a rotary source M. Each information write/read actioni is equal to the conventional one with both media 1a and 4a. The information consists of N pieces of record R. Each record R contains a variable data block Vb, (n) pieces of fixed data blocks Fb and a record index Ir which indicates those fixed data blocks. Therefore the medium 1a is defined as an index area I and a variable data area V with the medium 4a defined as a fixed data area F respectively. The area I stores a variable data index Iv, (n) pieces of fixed data indexed If corresponding to (n) pieces of blocks Fb and the index Ir which indicates those indexes If. Then N pieces of records R are stored in each area.
