PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic head which is stable in strength and has good characteristics by using chalcogenide glass as a means for adhering a main core and auxiliary cores. CONSTITUTION:The chalcogenide glass such as Si-As-Te glass, Si-Ge-As-Te glass or Ge-Sb-Se glass has a low softening point (about 317 deg.C). The coefft. of thermal expansion is realized at about 130X10<-7>/ deg.C which is substantially lower than the softening temp. or crystallization temp. of a 'Sendust(R)' material or amorphous material forming the main core 1. The softening temp. of glass 9 for joining core halves 1a, 1b can be brought therebetween. The coefft. of thermal expansion is determined on the basis of the coefft. of thermal expansion of the 'Sendust(R)' material or amorphous material which is 120X10<-7>/ deg.C-150X10<-7>/ deg.C. After the auxiliary cores 1a, 1b are positioned to sandwich the main core 1, load is exerted to the assembly and the assembly is heated and welded in a furnace.
