METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CONTROLLING POSITION OF MOLTEN METAL LEVEL IN CONTINUOUS CASTING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To stabilize the molten metal level in a mold within a prescribed range in an initial period of a continuous casting operation by measuring the rising time of the molten metal surface between the check positions in a mold, calculating the flow rate for casting in accordance with the measured time and setting the drawing speed of an ingot. CONSTITUTION:The lapse time until the molten metal level passes the lower check position 9 in the mold and arrives at the upper check position 10 during the time when the molten metal level in the mold arrives at the prescribed range is measured in the starting stage of the operation to start casting the molten steel into the mold in which a dummy bar 13 is inserted. The flow rate of casting of the molten steel is calculated from the lapse time, the sectional area of the mold and the distance between the upper and lower check positions 9 and 10. The drawing speed of the ingot is set in accordance with the calculated flow rate of casting and the molten metal surface in the mold is settled within the prescribed range from the initial stage of casting.
