This cladding consists of a flexible, tubular sleeve (15) and a cladding (16) for the clamping means adjoining the lower end of the sleeve (15), it being possible for the lower end of the sleeve (15) to be inserted in an aperture (24) in the upper side (23) of the cladding (16) for the clamping means. The cladding (16) for the clamping means, said cladding preferably consisting of relatively stiff material, also envelopes the device (6) for holding the backrest support (9) and, if appropriate, the part of the backrest support (9) projecting downwards from said device. The cladding can easily be mounted and, with a secure fit, covers all the sharp edges and shearing points on the backrest support (9) and the device (6) for holding the latter such that the safety of handling the seat is increased. <IMAGE>
