A process for manufacturing a catalyst comprising (a) a matrix or a carrier whose base consists of alumina powder and (b) an active phase comprising at least one noble metal of the platinum family, at least one metal promoter and one halogen, the process being characterized in that the alumina powder is subjected to peptization with an aqueous solution or an acidified aqueous solution, to confer it a peptization rate of at least 10%, and in that simultaneously, in the course of the peptization, at least a portion of the active phase comprising at least a portion of the metal promoter, is introduced into the alumina.
