The apparatus has a disc located in a sleeve cassette that is front loaded through a slot and moved onto a turntable. The drive system for the turntable is capable of vertical movement between load and play positions. Guide rails along either edge provide boundaries for the disc sleeve. The signal pick-up is supported on a pair of auxilliary slides. When the disc is loaded, an internal frame surrounding the disc latches with a guide bar at the rear edge of the player. The sleeve is with-drawn leaving the disc in position. The motor to drive the pick-up to the start position is engaged once the disc is in position.
