The grinding wheel 1 consists of a narrow part E and of a wide part L, and there are moreover provided means of relative displacement capable of producing a displacement of the grinding wheel 1 with respect to the part P to be ground, in an axial direction. Hence, the narrow part E of the grinding wheel makes it possible to rectify the end bearings of a wet sleeve, and in the case of a dry sleeve, it makes it possible to carry out, by means of reciprocating grinding, a roughing down of the entire surface of the sleeve, while the wide part L of the grinding wheel makes it possible to carry out the finishing operation. <IMAGE>
