PURPOSE:To recover Mn from molten medium-C ferromanganese slag by charging the slag adjusted to a specified basicity into a ladle having a porous plug, adding granular Si-Mn, and agitating them to reduce manganese oxide in the slag. CONSTITUTION:A porous plug 3 is inserted into a hole in the bottom of a ladle lined with a magnesia stamp 2 as lining refractories. CaO is added to molten slag produced during the manufacture of medium-C ferromanganese to adjust the slag to 1.1-1.25 basicity and to increase the sensible heat of the slag..The molten slag is then charged into the ladle, and Si-Mn of 5-15mm grain size is added while the molten slag is agitated by blowing an inert gas such as N2 from the plug 3. Mn oxide in the slag is reduced with Si in the Si-Mn and recovered as metallic Mn.
