An expansion joint, for roads and the like, comprises a flat rubber strip having transverse arcuate grooves in the upper and lower surfaces. The grooves are symmetrical about the centre line of the strip and increase, in width towards their centre. The upper and lower grooves are separated by a V-section diaphragm of depth between “ and ¢ of the strip thickness. |
