In order to provide a stoichiometric synthesis gas for a synthesis and to obtain a fraction of pure CO at the same time it is proposed that hydrocarbons 1, which may be sulphur-free or desulphurised, be converted in the presence of CO2 3 as the oxygen-supplying component in a reformer 2 by endothermal catalytic oxidation into a reforming gas 5 consisting predominantly of H2 and CO, that CO2 be wholly or partly separated 6 from the reforming gas, that from a first portion of the CO2-free reforming gas 7 a CO fraction 12 and an H2 fraction 9 be separated 11, and that a second portion of the CO2-free reforming gas, together with additional H2 9, be fed to a synthesis 10.
