PURPOSE:To improve catalytic activity, by providing a layer consisting of alumina and zirconia to the surface of a structure comprising a heat resistant material and providing a support layer consisting of a noble metal such as platinum or palladium and yttrium oxide thereon. CONSTITUTION:A wash coat layer comprising a mixture of alumina and zirconia is formed to the surface of a structure comprising a heat resistant material. Subsequently, a support layer comprising a mixture of at least one noble metal such as platinum, palladium or rhodium and yttrium oxide is laminated to the surface of the wash coat layer to form an oxidizing catalyst. The mixing ratio of at least one noble metal such as platinum, palladium or rhodium and yttrium oxide is pref. a range of 1:2-1:19 on a mol ratio. The mixing ratio of alumina and zirconia being the components of the wash coat layer is pref. in a range of 40:60-60:40 by wt. ratio. |
