PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration in working dynamic range which is caused by overflow or blooming due to the irradiation of intensive light, by switching the charge storage time for each frame forming a picture element. CONSTITUTION:The storage time TS1 of odd frames is set larger than the storage time TS2 of even frames. A frame deciding circuit 13 discriminates those odd and even frames and stores the signals of each frame in a frame memory 21 or 22 according to the result of said discrimination. A comparator 14, a counter 15 and a deciding circuit 16 detect the overflow of an odd frame and inhibit the output to be given to an adder 40 of the memory 21 for odd frames. While the output of the memory 22 for even frames is added with the output of the memory 21 by an adder 40. This addition, however, is inhibited in case an overflow occurs.
