PURPOSE:To improve locating accuracy of a magnetic head by giving flexibility to the proximity of a support portion of a chassis to which is fixed a drive motor or driven pulley. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic disk 12 is rotated by a drive source (not shown) so that a magnetic head on a carriage 14 provided with the magnetic head 13 bears against the magnetic disk to record and reproduce the magnetic signal. The carriage 14 is provided slidably to the magnetic disk 12 along the guide of a guide bar 15. The carriage 14 is moved by a drive pulley 17 supported on a rotary shaft of a drive motor 16 and a drive belt 19 trained over a driven pulley in a loop-shaped manner. The drive motor mounting portion of the carriage 20 is provided with a slit 21 to have flexibility within the limit of elasticity of portion shown by 22 in the chassis and proper tension is given to the drive belt 19 to absorb displacement.
