PURPOSE:To obtain well-finished surfaces coated with paint by electrodeposition by arranging many diaphragm electrodes in an electrodeposition bath along the forward direction of articles to be coated with paint and by applying pulsating voltage to the electrodes arranged at the inlet part of the bath. CONSTITUTION:Car bodies Z are put on movable hangers, moved in the direction of arrows X with a conveyor 3, and carried in an electrodeposition bath 1. In the bath 1, electrodeposition is first carried out with diaphragm electrodes 21, 22, 23 by applying pulsating voltage to the electrodes so that paint is repeatedly deposited and dissolved. Even when each body Z has an uneven surface by a stepped pattern or a film formed by chemical conversion treatment, a paint film is formed by the electrodeposition so as to make the uneven surface even. Electrodeposition is then carried out with diaphragm electrodes 24-29 to form a thick paint film. Constant voltage is being steadily applied to the electrodes 24-29.
