PURPOSE:To improve the read accuracy and to decrease adjusting man-hours by using an adjusting mechanism to adjust finely the optical length so that the read joints of an optical unit are matched correctly to attain ease of adjustment of the read joints. CONSTITUTION:An optical system frame 30 is fitted to a paper feed device 10, both are supported for one end as a turning shaft 41, around which the optical system frame 30 is moved vertically to the paper feed device 10. For example, a folded plate 33 of the optical system frame 30 is tapped and an adjusting screw 42 is screwed, the tip of the screw is pressed into contact with a folded plate 13 of the paper feed device 10 to support the frame 30. In turning the adjusting screw 42, the optical system frame 30 is moved vertically, the optical length is changed, the length of the read line is changed to adjust the read joints. Thus, when the joints are adjusted correctly, a lock nut 43 is tightened and fixed. The read joints are adjusted by printing out the original onto a printer actually.
