PURPOSE:To speed up a disk response by detecting an operator being nearby a device and operating the motor of a floppy disk drive, and stopping the motor a specific time after final disk operation while the operator leaves the device. CONSTITUTION:The floppy disk drive (FDD)3 is provided with a floppy disk on which sales data, customer control data, and article control data are stored. When a sensor 5 detects an operator being nearby the device, SENSE13 turns on and a system control part 1 activates a motor-on setting signal 11. An FF4 turns on the on signal 10 of the motor of the FDD3 to drive the motor. A hardware timer 6 makes a request for interruption at a constant period and a time- out processing program is executed after FD processing is completed by the operator. If the SENSE13 is off at this time, an on reset signal 12 for the motor is outputted. Thus, the disk response is speeded up.
