PURPOSE:To improve the rust resistance of a weather resistant steel sheet and the discoloration resistance of paint coated on the steel sheet by plating one side of the steel sheet with a metal preventing the formation of iron rust and by phosphating the plated and/or coating side with an org. resin. CONSTITUTION:In order to keep the color of paint coated on a weather resistant steel sheet stable for a long period, one side of the steel sheet is plated with a metal having higher corrosion resistance than Zn, e.g., Zn-Ni, Zn-Fe, Fe-P, Ni or Mn by >=3g/m<2>, and then the plated side is phosphated with Zn phosphate, Fe phosphate or the like. The plated side may be coated with an org. resin such as acrylic resin or alkyd resin by >=100mg/m<2> or may be phosphated and coated with the org. resin. The rust resistance of the weather resistant steel sheet and the discoloration resistance of paint coated on the steel sheet can be improved.
