Packing arrangement for a cover inserted into a cover socket of a pressurised housing and having a cover screw fastening. The cover has a circular-cylindrical part arranged in the cover socket with a specified fit relative to the cover socket wall, an annular packing chamber being formed between the cylindrical part of the cover and the cover socket wall, the said chamber having supporting surfaces which extend orthogonally to the cover socket wall. Arranged in the annular packing chamber is a packing assembly having a packing consisting of a constant-volume packing material which is plastically deformable under the effect of the sealing force and can be pressed against the cylindrical part of the cover and against the cover socket wall. The packing assembly consists of two metallic packing rings which have an L-shaped cross-section, are rotated by 180 DEG relative to one another and are inserted into one another with the tails of their Ls sliding on one another and, between the foot of the L and the front face of the respectively associated tail of the other L, form an annular cavity for an insert. The packing material is arranged in the cavities for the inserts. <IMAGE>
