PURPOSE:Aqueous ethyleneamine is subjected to extraction with a ketone-alcohol mixed solvent at a specific temperature to enable economical and high-yield production of ethyleneamine which is used as an agricultural chemical or paper strengthening agent. CONSTITUTION:Ethyleneamine is extracted from its aqueous solution containing the acyclic ethyleneamines and cyclic ethyleneamines using a ketone-alcohol mixed solvent by bringing them into countercurrent contact with each other. At this operation, the temperature in the extraction zone is kept at 20-150 deg.C where one end of the extraction zone is set to the maximum, 70-120 deg.C, while the other end is set to the minimum, 30-60 deg.C and the difference is set 20-120 deg.C, preferably 30-80 deg.C. Thus, the acyclic ethyleneamine is extracted in the low- temperature zone and the cyclic ethylenediamine is in the high-temperature zone.
